BC Cub Challenge 100 Pieces of Rubish Pick Up

This evening, the Cub Pack did their 100 piece of rubbish pick up for Part One of the BC Cub Challenge. They cleaned up the park next door to the Scout Hall, picking up a total of 121 pieces of rubbish. Several of the Cubs were surprised they found so much rubbish in the park next door to the hall. Due to the number of cubs in attendance, we will be counting this to the 100 hours combined we need to do as a Cub Pack.

Cubs at Semaphore Beach

This evening, the Cubs combined with the Joey Mob for a night at Semaphore Beach. We had a enjoyable evening at the beach and it was sure a pleasant way to spend the warm evening (and beats spending it at the Scout Hall! Akela said better out and about than staying indoors!). I also made sure we took Taquim with us as well, so that he could take in the beach and cool off at the beach as well.

1st Cub Night back for 2016

Today is the 1st Cub Meeting back for the year. There is a lot planned for 2016, in part due to it being 100years of Cub Scouting. The Branch Commissioner – Cub Scout 100 challenge is going to provide a lot of extra activities and challenges, especially for Akela who has to work out how to get these into the program.

It was great to see so many Cubs return for the year and we have had several people ring and ask about cubs at Mawson Lakes, so Akela is really excited about the whole thing.

For those who are interested, the Branch Commissioner – Cub Scout Challenge for the 100 years of scouting can be found at http://www.cubscouts.sa.scouts.com.au/sabcchallenge2016

We are sure the Cubs are going to really enjoy the extra challenges that will be open to them as a result of these additions to the program this year.

2016 SA Branch Commissioner's Challenge - Part One explained

2016  is the 100th year of Cub Scouting. Cub Scouts was officially launched in 1916 and became the younger section of Scouting for many years.

This year, in South Australia (SA for short), the Branch Commissioner for Cub Scouts has created a 6 part challenge for Cub Packs to complete over the year.

Akela has started to incorporate this into the Cub Pack program and I am sure that everyone will be enjoying the challenges that we take on as a pack.

We have done a cut and paste from the Website to explain what the challenge is about from the website (http://www.cubscouts.sa.scouts.com.au/sabcchallenge2016) and when we receive the next challenge (part two) then I am sure Akela will share with you all via my blog.

The 2016 SA Branch Commissioner's Challenge is here!

It's a great opportunity to join up with other Packs to collectively meet the Challenge requirements and will also help meet your 5-Star Scouting commitments!

As for the badge design? It will be progressively announced. Have a look at Part 1!

2016 Branch Commissioner's Challenge
PART 1: COMMUNITY/SERVICE

Getting to know our community, and helping to look after it, is an important part of every Scouting journey. Cub Scouts have many ways of giving our community a helping hand.
All Cub Scouts undertake a promise to "Help Other People", so to earn this component of the BC Challenge, as a Pack (or combined with another Pack/s) you need to complete at least three of the following:
  • Do 100 hours of Community Service
  • Do 100 Good Turns
  • Collect 100 pieces of rubbish
  • Fund-raise at least $100 for a community organisation (outside of Scouting)
And:
  • Take some photos and send the best three to bc.cubscouts@sa.scouts.com.au along with the 2016 BC Challenge Activity Record form* in order to be eligible to obtain this badge.
Your Pack should be in uniform when you complete any component of the BC Challenge. Be proud to be serving your community as a Cub Scout!
As an example of activities that might be undertaken, a Pack (or combined Pack) of 25 Cub Scouts might choose to collectively complete 100 hours of Community Service. This could be achieved by each Cub Scout contributing four hours each, however some Cubs may contribute more and others contribute less - every Cub that contributes to the collective effort for each criterion is eligible to receive the badge once all requirements are met.
