Golden Grove Scout Group Camp _ Sunday

Today saw a slower start to the day. However, we were still able to get activities in around packing and cleaning the building. The best part of the day was lunch and the pyramid of sausages that were made for the BBQ Lunch.

Golden Grove Group Camp - Saturday

It certainly was an early start, as the youth were up and ready, eager to start doing activities. There were plenty of outdoor activities, knot tying, Challenge Hill, Ice Blocking to name a few.

That evening, Dinner was a dress up, Christmas theme, followed by both a disco and campfire for those who wanted something a little quieter

Golden Grove Group Camp Friday Night

This evening, Scouting person (Raksha) and I headed to Woodhouse, staying in the Bunkhouse. We hitched a lift with Otter, another scouting human. We are attending the Golden Grove Scout Group Camp – Cubs through to Venturers.

We got the venue set up and claimed bunks before everyone else arrived. The theme for the weekend was ‘Christmas” and there was a competition within the group (for the youth members) to design the group a badge for the weekend’s camp.

Soon the youth members and other leaders the group turned up and got themselves sorted. The Scouts were camping in tents and they were soon up in record time. The Venturers decided they were going to go for bunks instead of setting up tents. The Joeys and Cubs also had bunks.

As was to be expected, it was not a early night with youth members excited and talking late into the night

Caching History - Adelaide History Tour caching in fact

Scouting person and I decided that while passing through today (Train to Semaphore for a artist / history walk for SA Living Artist Month) to try this cache.

Sure enough, the opportunity arose to attempt this cache

Thankfully, there was time between trains and being a Sunday (early-ish) that foot traffic was not going to create many issues to get the needed photo.

Joining Golden Grove Scout Group

Today, we went to visit Golden Grove Cub Pack. We've been asked by the Group Leader to try the Cub Section out and see what we think

So, we paid a visit and will give it a few visits to see how we go. They are certainly a big pack. But after sitting in South Australia's Branch Fellowship for the last two years, we are keen to link into another local group

We are sure we'll have a lot more scouting adventures to write about and keep everyone up todate with what is happening

Football and caching

Today, I went with Scouting Person to the football.

While on the way into the game at Adelaide Oval, we took a quick photo of the cache we had been passing for years on the way to cricket and football games.
While there was few people around, we were able to get one in (it gets busier closer to game time, and once game has finished, so we took the chance while we could)

This cache is also a part of the Cathedrals in Australia cache series

Cathedrals in Australia - St Peter's Cathedral, Adelaide

St Peter's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Adelaide and Metropolitan of the Province of South Australia. The cathedral, a significant Adelaide landmark, is situated on approximately 1 acre (0.40 ha)
of land at the corner of Pennington Terrace and King William Road in the suburb of North Adelaide.

As to the football? Well, the Adelaide  Football Club beat Carlton Football Club.

Geo caching Find

While we were passing through the city, we were browsing the Geocaching site and discovered we were sitting outside a cache….so of course we had to get it!

The cache is a part of the Cathedrals in Australia series. It will be good to get some more caching done as we go.

 This one is
St Francis Xavier's Cathedral and it is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Adelaide, South Australia. It is classified as being a Gothic Revival building in the Early English style. The tower stands 36 m high and is 56.5 m lengthwise and 29.5 m horizontally. The foundation stone was laid in 1856, and construction of the tower began in 1887. However, it was not completed until 1996.
