JOTA Sleep over with Flinders Park comes to a end

This morning was a little early, but a slow start. Certainly, wasn’t a rush to get up to be anywhere.

The cubs started packing their gear as soon as they were getting out of their sleeping bags and getting ready for breakfast – choice of cereal or camp muffins – with egg and bacon.

We sorted gear, packed and cleaned up after breakfast. Once this was completed, we headed to a local park, for a relaxed play and chat. While there, we had morning tea, before heading back to the Hall for pick up by the parents.

Everyone had a great time, and we are sure there will be plenty of sleepy Cubs on the way home today.

JOTA Hike and Sleep Over with Flinders Park Scout Group

This morning was an early start, as Scouting person and I went food shopping for a 24-hour sleep over. It was a joint sleepover between Golden Grove and Flinders Park Cub Units.

We met at the Flinders Park Scout Hall, and left our gear there. In our case, that included all the food as well. As soon as everyone was there and accounted for, it was time to start the walk to Fulham Scout Hall, for the JOTA / JOTI activity. We were slightly late in starting out, which meant we had to set a bit of a pace to get there in time. We have a couple of toilet stops along the way – and an attempt by the Cubs to bring a cat along with us. Eventually, the cat was left behind after one of the adults pointed out that it was neither feral, or a stray and was in fact a well looked after pet cat, that had probably jumped the back fence to have a explore.

When we got to Fulham Scout Hall, we quicky booked in and split into groups to do the activities. These included

1) chatting on line to Scouts around the World,

 2) Fox Hunting (a electronic game)

3) Smashing old electronics

 4) making things

Overall, I think the Cubs enjoyed it as we were there way longer than the 2 hours we were supposed to be!

We eventually managed to round up the Cubs and we left, heading back to Flinders Park Scout Hall. The trip back was a slower and more relaxed than the trip to Fulham Scout Hall.

When we returned to Flinders Park Scut Hall, there was time to relax briefly before we started setting up for tea. The Cubs were glad to have tea and a chance to relax after the walk. They also enjoyed the movie after tea. It wasn’t long before they were sleeping.

Avivation Museum (Port Adelaide)

Today, the Cubs had a visit to the Aviation Museum at Port Adelaide. It was initially going to be a joint visit with Flinders Park Cubs. However, due to a recent lockdown and easing of restrictions, we were able to do this as a Unit, instead of doing it as a joint activity with Flinders Park Cubs.

The Cubs who attended had a great time, as did their families who attended with them. Certainly a pleasant way to spend the afternoon.

Geocahing in Adelaide

While on the way to the Vertical Reality activity today, we stopped off to do another cache in town. It was early, and being a Sunday, there were very few people around. This made it easier to do the cache. It was enjoyable being able to get there and actually spend time getting another cache.

Vertical Reality - Cub Unit Activity

Today, the Cub Unit went to Vertical Reality for the end of term break up

It also counts towards some of the new badge work, in the re-vamped award scheme. In particular, this comes under the Outdoor Skills Area badge work – Vertical.

While small numbers, it was a great couple of hours and I know that the youth members who were there enjoyed the challenge. They all did really well.

I am sure we will be doing this as a activity again and soon.

Kapunda Camp - Sunday

Guess which animal was heard at 4am AGAIN? That’s right!  THE ROOSTERS!!!!

Although, this time, we rolled over and got 2 more hours of sleep before getting up and going to the shower

This morning was not as full on as yesterday. Breakfast was cereal and pancakes. Some kept coming back for more pancakes. Which was fine as there was certainly enough.

After the youth members had packed their personal gear and bedding, swept out the tents, ensuring they were clean, the tents were emptied. Then it was time to head to the local park to spend some time enjoying the playground and to place the decorated rocks that the Golden Grove Cubs had painted a few weeks before camp, to drop as apart of the Kapunda Rock Drop. They were able to swap rocks and took rocks to either re-hid or keep (We’re not sure what the Cubs will end up doing with their rocks)

Eventually, it was time to head back to the campsite, to be greeted by parents, who had arrived to pick up their youth members.

Overall, the youth members enjoyed the camp and they all went home tired, but happy.
