West End Christmas Display
This
afternoon, on the way to a family dinner for Akela, we visited the West End
Christmas Display. The display is next to the West End Brewery, just out of the
city. It is supported by the West End Brewery and we try to get there every few
years. We last went when we had Mischief, the visiting Meerkat from South
Africa and before we headed to the Australian Jamboree.

Ridley District Cub Beach Day
Today,
Akela and I went to the Ridley District Cub Beach Day. We took our own lunch,
and I made sure Akela had packed the Sunburn cream, as well as her hat. She doesn’t
always remember to take the hat, but I made sure she had it packed today.
We met up with the organising group (Edinburgh Park Scout Group) there as we were the 1st to arrive. It gave Akela a bit of a chance to catch up with the other leaders before everyone arrived.
It
was a great day, as there was a chance to look for golden treasure, a chance to
talk to lots of people, build sandcastles and have a great time.

Salisbury Christmas Parade and Bunnings Fundraising BBQ
Today
was a very busy day. In the morning, the Scout Group took part in the Salisbury
Christmas Parade. This event is held every year and the group participates every
year.
Then,
in the afternoon, Akela took me to the Fundraising BBQ in the afternoon at
Bunnings, at Parafield.
It
has certainly been a busy day

Beach visit - non scouting trip
Late
afternoon and I went to the beach with Akela. We had tea at the beach and
really enjoyed the time in the water and playing Frisbee with the dog. It was a
very pleasant night and Akela has promised more trips to the beach this coming
summer.

Morning at Semaphore South
Today,
we headed back to Port Adelaide, this time with Akela’s dog. Akela, myself and
the dog spent a few pleasant hours at the beach, while Akela’s husband went to
visit the Aviation museum (which was also having free entry today).
We
went for a walk, and checked out the path extension that wasn’t there last time
we went for a walk along the beach, and then we played ball with the dog on the
beach. The dog LOVES water and had been itching to get to the beach to play
while we were walking. We then had a chance for another quick walk before we
got picked up.
We
were due to have lunch at the beach, but due to the weather change that was
coming in, we headed to a friend’s place with our picnic lunch to share.
Overall,
it wasn’t that bad today, despite the wind.

Port Adelaide Museum Visit
Today,
Akela went to the Port Adelaide to visit some of the museums. They are open
today and tomorrow for free. We started at the Train museum and walked around a
bit. But Akela really wanted to go to the Maritime Museum, we headed over to
Maritime Museum, via the water. Akela found a boat called Maid of Wood. After
looking around, we headed to the beach for a picnic lunch. It was a great way
to spend a great spring morning.

Water Activities Camp - Sunday
Today,
Akela managed to get up for the sunrise and got the usual photos (she was a
little late getting up yesterday!). Although, most of the youth members had a
bit of a sleep in and the start to the day was a little slower than the
previous day.
The
wind today was strong! White tips on the waves and way too strong to be sailing
unfortunately. However, this didn’t stop other activities being arranged.
We
ended up at a local playground, looking for a cache and enjoying the many
varied parts of the playground, there were certainly something for everyone,
from equipment to explore to a soccer area to play soccer on for the older
ones.
Before
we could realise, parents arrived and it was time for cubs to go home. I think
it is a good thing there is no school for two weeks, as a lot of Cubs are going
to need a big sleep tonight to make up for the sleep they didn’t get this
weekend.
All
too soon we were heading back to the campsite for a late lunch and then a
cleanup. The Cubs did Akela proud and she is impressed with the way they
worked.

Water Activities Camp - Saturday
Today,
we were up early. The weather forecast indicated that the wind was going to be
a huge factor in how much sailing we got done today. If it gets to strong, then
we will need to come in. Therefore, the earlier we were ready to get going, the
better as it meant more sailing was going to be done.
After
going through setting up, getting the boats ready and everyone ready, sailing
commenced and we spent a pleasant few hours out on the water. We eventually
came in when the wind got to strong and exceeded the strength that we were
allowed to be out on the water.
After
lunch, everyone headed to the beach, where there was a chance to relax. Some
played soccer in the water, others chose to fish and others went for the ever
popular activity of building sandcastles.
It
wasn’t long before the sun started to dip and we needed to head back to
campsite. We got back and the youth had a chance to shower before tea. Tea was
one of the best meals ever and we certainly enjoyed it a great deal. Including
the fact the cubs were getting seconds of their veg!
After
tea, it was time to relax and watch two movies before retiring to bed. It was a
exhaustive day, but one that was enjoyed by all.
