Adelaide Lighthouse Geocahce and Wonderwalls

Today, we headed to Port Adelaide, but not for a Scouting activity. There was another Wonderwalls event on, and this means more walls being painted. Scouting person always finds this interesting and enjoys watching them create their art work

While at Port Adelaide, we also logged another cache while we were there. Another one off the list and we will have to make a better effort to do more about this activity

Photo Mania Challenge

Today, Akela took me to Port Adelaide (AGAIN!). This time for the Photo Mainia challenge. It was certainly a warm day (40C) and Akela had a lot of fluid packed in her pack to drink! She had initially wanted to take a packed lunch, but due to the heat, decided we were buying it fresh at lunch time.

We arrived in plenty of time for the start, and were given the 12 topics on which to take photos. They were certainly a different list – stacked, crossed wires, together, inside out, and several others. Initially, we were only to get 4 topics, and then two hours to get photos and then get the next set of 4 topics. However, due to the heat, we were given them all at once, so that we could get as many of them done before the heat of the day really heated up. But we were able to use the base to return to for breaks, toilets, getting drinks (there was a fridge they allowed us to use and store our drinks in)

Despite the heat (Akela seemed to cope quite well though!), it was a good day out, exploring the Port and trying to get the best photos we could get for the topics we had been given.

Australia Day 2015 - with no cricket at Adelaide Oval, what is a black sheep to do?

Today is Australia Day.  It is the official National Day of Australia and it is the anniversary of the First Fleet arriving in at Port Jackson in 1788.

Normally on Australia Day, there is cricket of some description on at Adelaide Oval. It has been a Test Match (5 day game) but in recent times, it has been a one day game. However, for some reason this year there was no game, which meant Akela had to find something else to do (Cricket on Australia Day for Akela has been like breathing – it is just what she and her family have always done)

So, Akela decided we were going to head back to Port Adelaide and have another look around at the paintings we saw the other day. She was convinced (correctly) that some would be completed and others in the final stages of completion. It was definitely worth going down to the Port to have another look!

We eventually dragged ourselves home, with the idea that maybe we could watch the cricket on the Television. Not a chance. It was being played in Sydney and it was washed out! Really, that was poor planning as it was such a nice day in Adelaide!

Port Adelaide Museum Visit

Today, Akela went to the Port Adelaide to visit some of the museums. They are open today and tomorrow for free. We started at the Train museum and walked around a bit. But Akela really wanted to go to the Maritime Museum, we headed over to Maritime Museum, via the water. Akela found a boat called Maid of Wood. After looking around, we headed to the beach for a picnic lunch. It was a great way to spend a great spring morning.

Dutch Tall Ships visiting Adelaide

Today, we went with Akela to see the Tall Ships at Port Adelaide. It was a really good day out, with a lot happening.

It was a great day weather wise, and lots of people about. It was hard getting the photos we did. But we hope you enjoy looking at the photos we did get

For those who want to know more about the Tall Ships we saw, you can find out more about them at http://www.dutchtallships.com/
