Cub Leadership Course 2016

Today was another early start. But the program was not as full as it was for Saturday. The program covered some scouting skills, such as tent pitching, compass work and first aid.

 We managed to get a look at what they were doing, after we had swept out the dorm area of Seeonee Hills – the Cubs had already moved their gear out, so it was a good chance to do it while they were out and doing the final activities.

 Once the sessions were over and done with, it was time for a quick check that everything was claimed and final flag parade, just as the parents were arriving. The certificates were given out and then everyone was free to go.

Cub Leadership Course

Tonight, Akela, Taquim and I headed to Seeonee Hills for the Cub Leadership Course. There was a light fog on the way up.

Once we arrived, it was a case of straight into it into the 1^st activity, which was followed by a night walk. A few cubs were dubious about the night walk, but once it was started, enjoyed the walk and chance to get out and about. It was certainly a experience for several cubs to have a walk at night in strange surrounds.

Once back, it was time to get ready for bed and settled for the night. It took a while for the cubs to settle (it was the 1^st night of camp after all). But once done, it was time for the leaders to finally get into bed and get some much needed sleep before the cubs decide to get up to early in the morning.

Ridley District Cub Leadership Course - Sunday

Today was another early start, but not as early as yesterday. It was the last of the sessions before packing up and heading home just before lunch time.

The weekend was full on with so many cubs there, but I think a lot of the cubs will be able to put to use their skills learnt this weekend into use within their packs.

Ridley District Cub Leadership Course - Saturday

It was an early rise this morning and a VERY rude shock to discover there was no hot water in the showers (so Akela discovered after she stuck her head under the water!!!!).

After breakfast, it was straight into sessions, with cubs learning about what is a Sixer and Second, what makes a good Sixer and Second, before heading into Round Robin sessions on Rolling and Breaking the Flag, Running a game, Care of Uniform, Grand Howl, Tent pitching. Lunch was a welcome break before a session on Law and Promise, and another round robin session with the following bases– Circle Game, Team Activity, and team Challenge. Akela then ran a session on behavior standards, before the Cubs got to have some free time before tea (more eating!!!!)

After tea, was the much awaited campfire and singing. There were also skits, which were fantastic. Akela said there were certainly some good actors in the Cub section this year. Maybe a few of them need to look at acting as a job choice following school. It was then time for supper and settle to bed for the night.

Today the cubs were a little slower getting up. While still up early, it was not quite the same enthusiasm as yesterday. Just a pity it was an early start again!

 After packing away their gear into bags and eating breakfast, it was straight into the final sessions. These were around Knotting, Compass work and First Aid as well as what is a Pack Council.

 It was soon over with parents arriving to collect their cubs at 12 to head home.

 It was also a final chance to say farewell to Micky on the way home, as Akela packaged him up into his envelope and posted him to his first host in Far North Queensland, Australia. Definitely sad to see him leave us, but I am sure that he is going to have a great time and we will be kept posted about his many activities and adventures.
