Trip Home

Today was the day we left the Jamboree. Just after midnight, but it still made it the 13th of January. It was with sadness that we were leaving, as we certainly had a great time while away

On the other hand, I think we were looking forward to seeing family and friends, as well as sleeping in our own bed.

We got some sleep on the bus to Brisbane, but Akela was miffed she was told it was a 4 hour bus trip and we were due at the air port at 4am – but we arrived at 2am! So she didn’t get much sleep at all.....others did, but she with the troop leader were pretty much awake.

The coffee shop guy sure did a roaring trade once he opened as there were quite a few who were looking forward to a hot coffee or hot chocolate to get them through the final stretch.

Eventually we were able to have breakfast and board the plane. It was a three hour direct flight home and certainly many of us were looking forward to getting home. Akela though was looking forward to going to the one day game at Adelaide Oval, the only game South Australia was getting. We’ll see if we make it through the game.......

Chisel Revived @ 2013 scouts Jamboree

Chisel Revived at AJ2013
The band Chisel Revived played at the Australia Jamboree. It was sure a great concert and we know Akela really appreciated and loved singing along to many of the songs. Akela said it was 'Awesome!" and we enjoyed it as well. Definitely one of the highlights of the evening entertainments for Akela.

Sites of the Jamboree

Today, Wilbur stayed with Akela while Mischief went out with one of the other leaders around the site and into Marybourgh. It was certainly worth it as mischief got to visit a few more places and more photos were taken. Overall, it was a great day and Wilbur certainly enjoyed some chil time with Akela while Mischief was out and about, seeing what was happening. It certainly looks like Mischief had a great time!

Another day trip to Marybourgh

Today, Akela was in Marybourgh again. This time, she was working on the activity for a few hours and then had some more time to wonder around town. Both Wilbur and Mischief got a chance to go with her and a few more photos were taken. We saw the Mary River today, and it is worth noting that this town flooded several years ago in the Qld floods. Akela has found a video of these floods  so that people can see what it was like then, compared to what it was like today – Monday 7th January 2013.

Here are the photos that Akela took of the town today.

Activities on site

Today, I went out with some of the scouts to the activities on site. It certainly was a enjoyable day and they sure had fun getting me and mischief out and about visiting the activities.

Trip into Marybourgh

Today, Akela and I managed, with Mischief to get into Marybourgh. We had some things we needed to buy and it was a chance to get off site for a few hours after lunch.

We found Woolworths, so Akela could get some Farmers Union Ice Coffee (a much welcomed sight once back on the Troop Site) and we found Wally, or rather one of the Wally’s that are to be found for the activity in Marybourgh.

It is certainly a town worth exploring.

Start of AJ2013

What a fun two days. A really early start was the order of the day on the 1st (in fact, Akela didn’t get ANY sleep) as she was busy on the 31st. She went shopping for some last minute stuff for the Jamboree. It certainly was a early start and people weren’t looking the best as they got on the bus at 3am.

But we got to the airport on time and certainly made sure we got the flight alright. Akela’s cousin’s husband was loading the luggage onto the plane (he works there) and it was certainly getting very real and very exciting.

We arrived in Melbourne ok and sat around for 2 hours before we were able to get onto our connecting flight. We had no sooner taxied out of the bay and had the safty talk, then we had to pull into another bay as there was a problem with the engine. So we had to sit on the plane for half hour before flying north. Akela slept the entire way to Qld. So was really no fun to talk to at all!

Upon our arrival, it was time for ANOTHER bus trip. A bit longer than the early morning one this time but our destination was the Marybourgh Showgrounds. Our home for the next 2 weeks. It was certainly with mounting excitement that we arrived on site!

We spent a few hours getting the basics set up, such as the sleeping tents and the dining area laid out. It wasn’t long before it was dark and time spent chatting with the troops around us. However, a early night was had by the majority.

The next day, it was a leisurely day to finish setting up the campsite and organising where exactly everything should be. Certainly was good to be there and have the chance to do so. One patrol did the right thing and went over to cook for a South Australian troop who arrived on site in the afternoon. The opening was fast approaching and the activities started the next day. I am sure the troop who gained the use of our patrol appreciated it!

Certainly looking forward to the activities and what will be happening over the next few days.
