Clean Up Australia Day

Today, Mawson Lakes Cubs and I went and participated in a Clean Up Australia Day activity. We joined in with the Friends of Pledger Wetlands with their clean up. Many hands made light work and it certainly help get the work done

Day at the Beach

Today, was Baden Powell’s birthday. Many scouting people refer to the 22^nd of Feb as Founders Day, in memory of when Robert Baden Powell was born in 1857.

While we didn’t do anything special today scouting wise (the Cub Pack had a special Baden Powell theme night at their Cub Meeting

Today though, Akela and I went to the beach with her dog and spent a lot of time throwing the ball. We also had a picnic for lunch, and it was certainly a great day to be at the beach

Cub Beach Night

This evening, the cub pack went to the beach. It was a great night and a very enjoyable evening. Everyone had a great time and in light of the temps of 41 during the day, was a great night away from the hall.

Farewelling Seamus

Today, I was very sad to say farewell to Seamus, the Playford Cub Pack travelling mascot. He is heading to Perth and visiting two groups in Perth before going overseas to see scout groups there. I hope he has fun and that we get to hear about his adventures as he goes.

Australia Day 2014

Today is Australia Day. It is a public holiday in Australia, but this has not always been the case. It was not until 1935 did all the Australian states and territories use that name to mark that date. Not until 1994 did they begin to celebrate Australia Day consistently as a public holiday on that date.

Where I live, we have always, in Akela’s memory had cricket on Australia, except for one year. So, we hung out at the cricket. It was a day/.night game, starting at 1:50pm, finishing around 9:30pm, in time to see the Australia Day fireworks that were being put on after the Australia Day evening concert at the park across the river. There were certainly a lot of people in the city – there was 27,000 at the cricket, around another 30,000 at the Australia Day concert (which is always held after the Australia Day parade through town) and then there was the last stage of the Tour Down Under event earlier in the day, around lunch time.

Tour Down Under goes through City of Playford

This morning, Akela, Semuas and I stood on the side of the road to watch the riders in Tour Down Under. It was certainly a good chance to see so many top cyclists in the local area. There are certainly a lot of riders!

New South Wales CUBOREE 2014

Recently, the Cub Scout section in New South Wales held a state camp called a Cuboree. They run over 4 days, with everyone having a great time by all accounts on Facebook.
