Hosting Angle Vale Monday Night Cub Pack

This evening, Mawson Lakes Cub Pack hosted Angle Vale Scout Group’s Monday Night Pack for the evening.

It was very exciting to see so many on the pack circle this evening and I think everyone had a great time. I know I did as did Taquim as well. We managed to get one photo opportunity in this evening

Monday on Camp - Pack Up!

Today was the last day of camp. A number of the cubs slept in until gone 8am! Akela certainly wasn’t going to wake them up! She let them sleep. Gee, we sure have a good leader, who recognizes that Cubs certainly do need their sleep!

It was a fairly relaxed day, with some kite flying going on and a lot of pushing by Akela to get the Cubs to pack their gear! As well as some cleaning (apparently, when Akela asks Cubs to wipe down the tables, the cubs seem to think she really means get the broom and sweep it instead!) Geeze, some of them take a long time to get that done.

Everyone was happy to see their parents and to head home. We’re not sure how may fell asleep in the car, but we’re sure there are a few who had a really early night!

Revolution set up

Today was the day. Akela did her usual five minute pack of her personal gean and we were off. To the Scout Hall to 1^st pick up the tents (and other sundries), and then to Woodhouse, so we could set the tents up for the weekend. It really didn’t take long and it was not long before the excited youth members and their parents arrived on site. Going to bed early was not something we did that night – but the fog coming in was something special to see, as it rolled over the campsite. A pity Akela didnt get any photos of this!

One Sleep to go

There is only one more sleep to go before we head to Revolution 2014! This is the combined Cub and Joey State Cub Camp and I am really looking forward to attending.

New South Wales CUBOREE 2014

Recently, the Cub Scout section in New South Wales held a state camp called a Cuboree. They run over 4 days, with everyone having a great time by all accounts on Facebook.

It was thanks to Facebook that Akela found this above clip which was recently broadcast, so we thought we would share with the readers here what the Cubs got up to recently in New South Wales.

Sunday at Seahaven Camp

Today was a little slower than yesterday. Everyone, including Akela slept in a bit (Akela until 7am – on a camp for her, that is definitely a sleep in!!!!).  

After breakfast, the cubs and 3 of the leaders walked to the local playground. It was a bit of a walk, but certainly a very nice day for it. The sun was shining, people were out walking with their families (and in some cases their dogs) or riding their push bikes. As a result, Akela and Raksha were talking of doing a day activity of getting the Cubs with their bikes and going for a bike ride as a day activity. Certainly an idea that the Cubs listening in seem to really really like!

 We had taken morning tea to the playground and the cubs had a great time playing on the playground. Even Charli and I got a play on some of the swings!

 It wasn’t long before we had to head back to Seahaven and start lunch before packing up the personal gear. That is always an interesting exercise on camp and today is no different. But with the exception of a sleeping bag and a camera, everything else went home with someone! We’re impressed….

 After the Cubs personal gear was packed, it was time for lunch, to do some cleaning before the parents started arriving to collect them.

 Overall, it was a good camp and a enjoyable weekend away. I hope the Cubs enjoyed their camp and we look forward to seeing everyone at the next one.

Seahaven Camp Friday Night

Today was busy as Akela and I went food shopping for Cub Camp. It was the usual hectic rush around to ensure the right amount of food was bought. Akela did really well to get it done as she had to shop for a vegetarian as well as someone who needs a gluten free diet. But there is certainly no way that anyone will be going hungry on the weekend!

We arrived at Seahaven where we were able to unload the food and sort it into the fridges before the Cubs started arriving from 7pm (even though the forms said 7:30pm). Once we had ensured everyone was accounted for, the cubs and leaders went out for a walk around the local area. We had to leave Bagheera, the leader, behind. He has an injured knee and couldn’t walk long distances. It was certainly a walk worth doing as it took an hour. But it was more to try and get some of the cubs excess excitement out before trying to settle for bed.  

 The cubs eventually went to bed and finally got to sleep around midnight. Once this was done, the leaders were finally able to head to bed themselves, after making sure alarms were set for the morning.

Ridley District Cub Leadership Course - Saturday

Today was an early start and definitely a cool day. In fact, there was fog when we got up this morning. It was certainly a cool day. But thankfully most of our activities were either inside or when outside did keep us warm.

Some of the day’s activities included what is a Sixer and Second, what makes a good Sixer and Second, attending to the flag, care of uniform, tent pitching, working together activities and campfire preparation.

 Micky spent most of the day with a cub from Edinburgh Park who took him around to all the activities with her. It is going to be sad to see him go, but I also know he is going to have an awesome time while he is travelling and I am sure he will keep us all posted about his adventures.

 After much activity, it was time for the evening campfire and some challenges that Akela thought up. She even challenged the cubs to be quiet for two minutes and the cubs didn’t make a sound for almost three!

 All to soon it was time for bed and getting into the sleeping bags was greatly appreciated.

Ridley District Cub Leadership Course 2013 - arrival

Well, tonight, I went to the 2013 Leadership Course with Akela. It is being run from Balhannah Scout Hall. We have been here before for a District Cub Camp two years ago. I am sure it will be a great weekend. The weather looks like it will hold and I am sure the Cubs will gain a lot from the course.

 Well, must be off to bed as we’re going to really need to get some sleep tonight before a full on day tomorrow.

Victor Harbor Camp - Friday Night

Today was sure busy! Akela had to go shopping for camp food and then head to camp at Victor. Of course I got dragged along to go shopping with her and two of the assistant leaders.

We left early enough and arrived at Camp around 7:30pm. The site we were staying at was at the Victor Harbor Scout Hall and it was certainly spacious. They have a heap more land than we do for a lot of things, including setting up tents in the grounds.

 Once tents were up, and the gear was placed in the allocated tents, it was time for a quick walk around Victor to give the cubs a chance to settle before heading to bed. It wasn’t the earliest of nights, but the cubs did talk for a while before settling down to sleep.

 

Saturday at Camp, Victor Harbor

Today, was a very good day. Weather was perfect and the Cubs were very well behaved overall.

It was an early start, as was to be expected on the first day of camp. After having breakfast and heading to the playground, where our first activity was a boot camp style activity. It was certainly once way to get moving and certainly ensured the cubs got moving. While Bagheera and Baloo were running this activity, Akela managed to get a few shots of the beach and Wilbur in before we needed to head to the next activity.

 We had morning tea before heading over to Granite Island for our booked in Penguin Feeding session t the Penguin Centre on Granite Island. This was a most interesting aspect of camp as it allowed the cubs to hear how numbers of penguins on Granite Island have dropped from 2000 in the year 2000 to 126 last year. The number of New Zealand seals has increased over this period and it is certainly food for thought that there may be a link. I think the Cubs were very good and to be commended.

 After lunch, we headed to the National Trust museum and had a look around there as well. Here, we split into two groups and half started one way and the other half started the other and crossed over in the middle.

Then it was back to the hall and time to have some free time before we headed to the beach for a swim prior to tea. It also allowed the cubs to sort out their tents, as they were rather shocking.

 Tea was followed by a walk before going to bed and pretty much all the cubs were ready to crash early after much walking and not so much sleep the previous day.

 For those who don’t know much about Victor Harbor, we can provide the following information: Victor Harbor is a city on the coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, about 80 km south of Adelaide, South Australia. The city is the largest population centre on the peninsula, with an economy based upon agriculture, fisheries and various industries. It is also a highly popular tourist destination, with the city's population greatly expanded during the summer holidays.

Ridley District Movie Night

Tonight was Ridley District’s Cub Movie Night, It was held at Edinburgh Park Scout Hall and there was a good turnout of 71 Cubs present. I really enjoyed the movie and it was a good night.

We didn’t get any photos from tonight’s activity (bit hard when we were watching a movie, but I am sure this event will be repeated again.

Cub Camp 24th to 26th June 2011 - Theme - History Badge



On the weekend of 24th to 26th June 2011, Wilbur, Charlie and Baggie went on camp with Mawson Lakes Cub Pack. The camp was held at Seahaven Campsite, at Outer Harbor. It was really a lot of fun, especially as we got carried round for the one hour walk the Cubs did on Friday Night! It certainly helped the Cubs go to sleep on Friday Night! A couple were complaining about having to go out, but they stopped complaining when they realized Akela wasn’t listening to them!


On the Saturday, the Cubs, leaders and Wilbur went into Port Adelaide, and visited both the Maritime and Railway Museums. There was even a walk around Port Adelaide before we got to the 1st museum. The Cubs split into smaller groups and worked with an adult to get the worksheets done.
Once we finished there, it was time to head over to the Train Museum, just down the road. The visit here was a bit more relaxed and the cubs had a great time visiting and exploring the different trains that use to be in service. A definite highlight was a ride on the train that runs around the museum. It was a good ride and one that Wilbur got to enjoy as well.

From here, we headed back to Seahaven, getting on the train at Port Adelaide Station. It was certainly a good train trip and all the Cubs behaved again, just as they had done on the way in the morning.


When we arrived back, it was time for some free time before tea and a chance to watch the sun disappear over the horizon at Sun Set. The sun set was awesome and the Cubs really enjoyed the chance to watch it setting until it had disappeared.

That night saw several go to bed before 8pm and sleep. The others sat around and talked for a while, before all the cubs were in bed and asleep by 10pm.

Sunday Morning saw two fire alarms getting the Cubs moving and fast. It was the most effective way to make sure they were all out of bed. Still have not found out what set it off though.

Another walk, this time to a local playground and watching a local bike race happening, which had the cubs counting bikes as they headed back to Seahaven.

Once back at camp, it was time to do some last minutes activities to complete the History badge requirements. These were not overly hard and the cubs enjoyed the chance to have something to eat and drink while they were working.

Once these activities were completed, the Cubs then went and made a start on packing their gear. The first part was to pack and clear out of the sleeping areas. They certainly got that done quickly!

A quick break for lunch, and then back into the cleaning up. With team work, it was done quickly and well. The Cubs are certainly impressive when they put their minds to it!
All too soon, the cubs were packed, had cleaned the campsite and the parents were arriving to pick them up! It was certainly good to see that the cubs had a great time on camp and that they had earned a badge along the way.

Overall, it was a great camp, and we certainly had a great time. It was also good to meet the Joey section who attended camp with us, including Rufus Bear. He’s very cool to hang around with and likes having his photo taken as well.
