Cooking Pancakes on Tins

This evening at Cubs, the activity was cooking pancakes on tins. We used candles for heat.

Even though there seemed to be doubt with some people, it did work and quite well. Some of the Cub Parents said after the meeting that their child had actually enjoyed the activity.

JOTT (Jamboree Of The Trail Hike) Hike 2022

Today Golden Grove Cubs went on a hike for JOTT (Jamboree of The Trail). It was held at Antsey Hill Recreation Park, and the group did the Yellowtail Trail. It is listed as being 6.2km long and it was certainly challenging in some parts. But also, completely worth it for the views over the city. The Cubs were certainly amazed with being able to see Tea Tree Plaza shopping center so clearly.

The weather was cool, which was great, as it meant we (as a group) were not getting warm. There were passing showers, and were short. It did mean most of the Cubs put their jackets on, but we didn’t get really, really wet.

The hike allowed ALL the cubs to add km to their KM badge, and several were able to hit milestones, such as the 50KM badge. Scouting Human is also pretty sure that a number of the cubs will also be getting parts of their OSA progressions passed off as well.

Over all, it was a great hike and Scouting person and I think we might head back at some stage and do the hike again on our own. Certainly worth doing again at some point.

Clean Up Australia Day 2022

This morning, Golden Grove Cub Unit joined with the Golden Grove Lions Club and participated in Clean Up Australia Day. We did 90 minutes, but was definitely a help and less rubbish that is laying around.

It was interesting that the most picked up item was the single use face masks. 23 in total for one bag of rubbish. That was just in the little area the Cubs did, so there is no knowing how many others were picked up by others who were involved with the site we were helping clean up.

South Australia Cub Leadership and Personal Development Course - Hope Valley Scout Hall

Today, 5 Cubs from Golden Grove attended the Cub Leadership Course / Personal Development Course at Hope Valley Scout Hall. It was a full day – 9 to 4pm. But the Cubs who attended will have learnt a lot and the activities looked awesome, as they covered teamwork and leadership with each one.

We are sure each one who attended gained something and will be able to put it to use within the Cub Section during activities in the future.

Carisbrooke Hike

This evening, the Cub Unit had another out of hall activity. It was time to do a hike through Carisbrooke Park. Unlike last year, we didn’t have any Cubs fall in the creek as they tried to jump across it. Probably because they didn’t attempt to do that this year. They seemed more interested in getting onto the playgrounds we came across as we went through!

It was a great night, not a huge walk-in terms of km. But this is probably due to the amount of time we spent on the playground. But a great way to get out of the hall and into the fresh air.
