Cubs and Joeys visit Art Gallery of South Australia

Well, today was certainly a great day. Today, Cubs from both Playford and Mawson Lakes Packs, headed into town and participated in some activities for their Art and Design Badge – Level One. They were also joined by two Joeys from Mawson Lakes, one of whom is working on his Joey to Cub Link badge.

The activities were apart of the “START at the Gallery offers an exciting introduction to visual art for children and families. Held on the first Sunday of every month, START is free and includes art activities, tours, live music and entertainment” (http://www.artgallery.sa.gov.au/agsa/home/Events/children_and_families.html )

We also had three parents join us for the day and their help on the day was greatly appreciated.

Some of the activities that the Cubs and Joeys did while at the art gallery include printing with a block and colouring it, attending a children’s tour and also did a portrait which several cubs entered into the art competition.

All to soon it was time for lunch before heading back to the train station for the trip home. It was a good day out and we think the cubs and joeys enjoyed the day.

South Australian Branch Cub Hike

Today, I went out with the Mawson lakes Cub Pack on a hike around Adelaide. It was a coolish day, but this was a bonus as it meant we didn’t get hot and we finished just in time before it started to rain! That was a total bonus.

We traveled into the city by train, and traveled on the tram and came home by the bus. So we certainly got to experience all types of transport while we were out and about!

It was a long hike and a lot of questions, which were spread out all over the city. It was certainly a fun day! We did really well with the questions and Akela was impressed – she didn’t think we would get as many of them as we did! So that was a bonus.

While out, we met the following Cub Packs while doing the walk as well:
·         Hillcrest Cub Pack
·         Aldinga Bay Cub Pack
·         Eden Hills Cub Pack (x 2 – they had split into three groups and we met two groups)
·         A pack from Sturt District (who we didn’t get the name of the pack from)

Akela even shouted the cubs an ice cream each and it was certainly appreciated by the Cubs.

Some of the questions that were asked were quite interesting and certainly got the cubs looking for information. I didn’t answer many really. It could be said I was simply along for the ride. But one thing Akela should get me is my own little pouch type bag so I can travel a bit easier than what I did for the hike. I think it would make it easier all round

Below are some of the photos that were take on the day out. I hope everyone enjoys them.

Art Gallery Trip with Mawson Lakes Joey Mob

On Sunday 6th November, Akela and I went with the Joeys into Adelaide, so we could do some activities at the Adelaide Art Gallery.

We met at Mawson Lakes Interchange at 10:45am and caught the 11:02 train into town. From there, we headed along North Terrace to the Art Gallery. As we walked along North Terrace, one of the Joeys noticed the white crosses and red poppies in preparation for Remembrance Day on Friday.

We had a few minutes early, but that was a good chance to get ready for the 1st activity.

The first activity we did was the talk of the pictures hanging in the art gallery. It was aimed at the Joey’s age group and the lady was very good and held the children’s attention. While this was happening, we also had another lady come around and provide the Joeys with a chance to take part in a Muppet skit. It was quite good and the Joeys really enjoyed playing with the Muppets.

From there, the Joeys went into the art activity and made wall hangings. Some of them were very well done and the Joeys were very happy to take them home.

From there, the Joeys had lunch and a visit around the Museum next door to the Art Gallery. Once that was done, it was time to head home. The Joeys certainly had a good day, as did the parents. It is certainly something that the Joey Mob will be doing something again.
